Daily Compliance Item- 9/17/13- 13.11.3.7- Media Interviews

Bounce Pass, an Ocean State University men’s basketball NLI signee who is not enrolled in summer classes but is working out voluntarily with a strength and conditioning coach during the summer vacation period, is interviewed by a local television station about his upcoming freshman year and sport season.

Is this permissible?

Yes.  NCAA Staff Interpretation- 9-13-13- Member Institution Arranging for Media Interviews with Prospective Student-Athletes Participating in Voluntary Summer Workouts Conducted by Strength and Conditioning Coach — Basketball and Football (I)- states that, in basketball and football, it is permissible for an institution to arrange for media outlets to conduct interviews with a prospective student-athlete during the summer prior to initial full-time enrollment, provided the prospective student-athlete is on campus and is permitted to participate in voluntary summer workouts conducted by an institution’s strength and conditioning coach.
